Not So Sweet

Despite our desire to cut back on sugar, it's not always easy to make the healthiest choices. To decode the Nutrition Facts labels when you're grocery shopping, steer clear of products that list sugar first (or near the top). And be on the lookout for the sweetener's many aliases, including sucrose, fructose, syrup (such as high-fructose corn syrup or brown rice syrup), evaporated can juice, cane crystals, fruit juice concentrate (such as grape or white grape), honey, and molasses. So sugar by any other name is still full of calories.
